Andrew Vaughan Gilman grew up in Ashland, Virginia, minutes north of Richmond. In 1995, Gilman graduated from high school and moved to the Washington, D.C. area to study oil painting at George Mason University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Studio. Since graduating in 2001, Gilman resides in Washington, D.C. and continues to pursue his career as an artist.
Through commissioned oil paintings, his career as an artist is beginning to take form. The commissioned works are comprised of originals, portraiture, landscapes and reproductions. Reproducing such masters as John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer and Edgar Degas have provided the means for an excellent, timeless, post-graduate education in art. Gilman has also been mentored by internationally renowned Israeli painter Zvi Porath.
Gilman's painting style is best described as a conglomerate of his major influences—Carravaggio, Sargent, Picasso, Dali and Richter. Gilman is now a freelance painter, taking on a vast array of commissions, while building on a portfolio of original works that he hopes will leave a permanent mark on the art world.
